Incorporating Exercise into Daily Activity

In addition to exercising regularly by doing strength training, flexibility or aerobic activities, you can work more activity into your daily activities to keep in top form. By making a conscious effort to be more active in your day-to-day life, you’ll come to realize how much more energy you have to do other things that you enjoy.

Walk to do your errands. A lot of times, we’ll just jump in our cars any time we need to mail something or grab an ingredient from the grocery store, even if it’s less than a mile away. Instead, consider walking to do your errands. You may find that it gives you time to clear your head, and you’ll notice things about your neighborhood that you may miss from the vantage point of your car.

Park further away. Do you ever find yourself fighting for a parking space just because it’s a few spots closer to the door? Don’t risk a car accident (or worse yet, a conflict) just for front row parking. Skip the stress and make it a goal to find the easiest spot to park in, even if it’s all the way across the parking lot.

Walk your dog. Instead of letting Fido out your back door to do his business and play, accompany him for a walk around the block. It’s important to bond with your pup, and it’s a good way to get on your feet while in good company.

Take the stairs. Taking the stairs provides you with a great cardiovascular workout, and it’s often quicker than waiting for the elevator. Plus that, it will wake you up in the middle of your work day without leaving you with the jitters.

Clean. Vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, dusting, and scrubbing all burn lots of calories, thereby killing two birds with one stone.

Have sex. Perhaps the most pleasurable way to get aerobic activity in without thinking about it. Men weighing 160 pounds burn 168 calories after having sex for half an hour. Women weighing 130 pounds burn 129 calories per half hour. Those numbers are on par with swimming for the same amount of time.
